Title : Biography Date : 30 September 2006 Updated : 19 January 2012 Author : Stian Skjæveland Thanks : Jorge Barrera for langauge help with this document I was born in Stavanger (1), Norway (2), on the 26th of July 1984. I was raised in Klepp (3), which is a quite small municipality in Norway. When I was around one year old, my parents built what was later the house I lived in - more or less (I spent some years in a foster-family) - until I was 20 years old, when I moved to my own apartment (4), still in Klepp, only five minutes by walk to my parents' house. I like to live close to my friends and family, although many of my friends now live and study elsewhere in Norway. As of January 2009 my parents got divorsed, and the family-house was sold. It rains a lot and is very windy, dark and cold here on the south-west coast of Norway (5). I'm not sure how to explain my level of education in english, but it's related to healthcare (maybe "care worker" wold be a suitable word), which means that I can help and assist people with different kinds of disorders and disabilities (e.g. downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, mental disorders and dementia). At the moment I'm undergoing rehabilitation (including psychotherapy and medications) due to mental disorders (Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder and avoidant personality disorder). This being quite ironic as I would be able to help and assist poeple with the same disorders that I got myself. I suffer from some non-mental problems as well, like hiatal hernia. Those few who's close to me know my interests. Basically, I'm interested in psychology, philosophy, religion, art, culture, politics, local history and mythology. These interests may be seen as quite intellectual (and may even eccentric) by some, but to me they are both important and interesting aspects of life. I'm a christian, but not of the charismatic and fundamentalistic type. Many other christians would say that I'm way to liberal when it comes to how I like to live my life. I think it's an important right that one can make own desitions when it comes to how one wants to live, this means that one must be allowed to make even what's conventional seen as bad desitions. I like litterature. The interest is not limited to facts, but fiction as well. I like most of what I've read by Stephen King. I like to write myself, including articles, essays, opinions (some of which have been printed in Norway's largest newspapers), lyrics, poems, short stories and novels. I've even been interviewed by one of the biggest tabloid newspapers in Norway with a huge picture of me on page 2 and 3. Music is another important aspect of my life. Usually, I listen to music all the time (6). I love rock and metal, but I find myself listening to numerous other (sub-)genres as well. I make electronic noise music, which I'm doing under the name Ad infinitvm (7). I got another musical project going on, under the name Stian Von Skjevelandski (8). The latter being more psychedelig/indie/lo-fi pop/rock. I promote the importance of open source, free software and open standards. I started programming in MS-DOS when I was around ten years old, in the MS-DOS shell and dialects of BASIC. Later, with Microsoft Windows 9x, I started programming in Pascal, as well as a few other languages. In the late 90's I started using Linux 2.2, and throw Microsoft out for good. I started programming in C/C++, x86-asm, ForTran, Perl, Python, PHP, Java, and various others, including server-side scripting for Apache and other minor scripting languages. Nowadays I program mostly in languages like Perl, C and HTML. Two important projects to me that I'm working on these days includes Inlook (an e-mail sending and receiving program) and MusicDB (a music database). Some of the programs I'm working on is personal projects (9), and others under the group named Atlantis Crew (10). I'm running Slackware Linux on most of my computers, but I also like many of the BSD-variants (like OpenBSD) and other distributions of Linux (like Debian GNU/Linux), including more traditional UNIX-systems (which I of course could wish were open source). I've translated "How To Become A Hacker" (by Eric S. Raymond) to Norwegian (11), and am planning to translate other documents as well. I've also written numerous guides, introductions and HOWTO's related to Linux and open source software. I'm usually a very quiet, introvert and non-vocal individual that try not to bother other people with my existence. I tend to prefer to stay alone with not too many people around me. This of course may be an effect of the disorders I'm suffering from. Still, I have a few close and good old friends that I like to be with, drinking beer and whisky, smoking the pipe and having interesting conversations. I'm available on the DALnet (12), Freenode (13) and EFnet (14) (the latter being where #kosekanal is the only channel I'm in) IRC-networks, my nickname is stunix. My e-mail address is: stian at atlantiscrew period net. Please feel free to contact me if you have any comments or questions related to me, my projects, my interests or my personal website.
